Dodd was so impressed, he signed them to his Studio One label and suggested that they add McGregor, who was so young that he had to stand on a beer crate to reach the microphone.
In addition to crediting many of the group's records to the Clarendonians, Dodd attributed several of their recordings to Freddie and Fitzie, Freddie and Peter or to any of the three singers as soloists. Following the Clarendonians's disbanding, Wilson continued to perform as a soloist. For a brief period, he worked with the Techniques, using the pseudonym King Shark. After releasing several singles produced by Dodd, McGregor achieved international success with the release of his debut album, Bobby Babylon, compiled of previously unreleased tracks.
Austin was far less successful, disappearing into oblivion shortly after the demise of the Clarendonians. The album is a mix of classic tunes and rhythms alongside super-rarities that were released in a dazzlingly complex web of Studio One labels and issues, deftly navigated with new sleeve notes from author and Studio One authority Rob Chapman.
But enough with the chatter, just spin the platter - these tunes rule the town, hands down! Ace dub LP from legendary selector, producer and arranger Tappa Zukie with a long lost relic from the archives.
This one has been sitting on the shelves of Tappa's studio since the late 70's, a project he intigated himself in order to give some respect to horn players like Tommy McCook, Vin Gordon or Deadly "Headly" Bennett who were all too often dubbed out of existence by producers looking to use only the drum and bass sections of track for their dub versions. The rhythm section of these track are still as strong as ever, but the horns are largely pushed up in LP mix, adding large splashes of colour to what would often be abstracted rhythm and sound based trcks, making for a very refreshing and unique take on dub from way back when.
